I love Fuerteventura. I've been to the other islands but this one stuck. The combination of heat and wind works for me. It's a desert technically and I love the volcanic bare landscape. I stayed in Corralejo before and this time Jandia. The beaches are postcard beautiful. We rented a flat via Airbnb and it was good, although next time I will look for a flat with a/c, essential in August.
Very hot, lots of restaurants well priced, Siam Park close by, beaches close by. De-stressing tips: The beach. Adventurous activities: Pedalos in the sea, Siam water park. Sightseeing places: Siam water park. Romantic experience: Desert date. I liked: The weather, close to attractions, range of restaurants.
Weather was great! Hot and sunny with highs of up to 30 degrees Celsius during the day. At night it would drop to a cold 12/13 degrees Celsius so take something to wrap up warm in the evenings. A lot of the local food was Mexican so take some time out to try some local Burros, enchiladas and tacos. We hiked up the Piestewa Peak which offers great views of Phoenix and visited the desert botanical gardens. We stayed at the Ranchonde lots Caballeros for 3 nights also which enabled us to experience the ranch life - we took part in horseback riding and skeet shooting which was fun and should not be missed! We also drove out to the desert for campfire drinks! You enjoyed: I loved hiking up to Piestewa Peak. We managed to see all of Phoenix from there. Wish we had time to go up Camelback mountain which was higher! Staying at the Rancho the low Caballeros was my highlight though - it's such a beautiful ranch. We could watch the horses exercising in the mornings! We rode on horseback and tried our hand at skeet shooting! We visited the saloons in Wickenburg and drank with the locals and tried line dancing! Adventure activities: Horseback Riding, skeet shooting, Hiking. Places you saw: Hiking Piestewa Peak and Camelback Mountain and hole in the rock. Desert Botanical gardens. Heard Museum, the Rodeo, Bluegrass Festival was on during the weekend of 8-10 November, Drinking in Saloons, Eating Mexican food, Wickenburg.
Discovered the joys of Freemont Street. It is a must for tourists. Full of free live bands, cheaper food and an exciting and more innovative street life. Vegas gets more and more expensive. Paid 25 dollars for a buffet meal which is far more than I would pay at home. Had a really good time though. It is so very big. Don't think I could do more than a couple of days but then there is such a beautiful desert surrounding it. Off to the Grand Canyon today. Sightseeing places: Freemont Street was the best. The strip is always very lively and diverse. Really like Cromwell casino for an old Vegas style casino with cheap drinks. Romantic experience: A French experience in Bally's which was going so well until we got the bill for drinks. Friend's experience: Listening to live bands in Freemont Street and watching people fly along the street on zipwires. I liked: The vibrance and scale of the whole place.
