1. Beijing, China

Must see. Great Wall, but plan a driver to take you there and agree a price... Forbidden City, Tianmen Square, Temple of Heaven all take most of the day, Temple of Lama and Temple of Confucius can be done together in 1 day. Beijing Zoo is also a full day of fun. Most were accessible by subway. Definitely go to the red theatre to see the Kung Fu show. Take comfy shoes as there's a lot of walking. The Forbidden City and the temple of heaven can get very busy so go as early as you can and avoid it at the weekend. Early start ensures you get the most out of your day. Sightseeing places: The Great Wall and the Temple of Heaven. Romantic experience: Walking around the beautiful parks in the Sun. I liked: Learning about a new culture. Experiencing the history of China as well it's modern growth.   Read more

We stayed at The Telegraph Suits which I can not recommend enough! The staff really make that place such a lovely hotel! There is a gem of a restaurant not far away, Cabana, it's quite hidden down an alley but gorgeous food... Lots of water fountains with safe drinking water throughout the city. Food experience: As I said previously Cabana was our favourite restaurant but it is tricky to find. It is down an alley close to The Telegraph Suits. All home-cooked food and real family-friendly staff. Sightseeing places: We visited the Spanish Steps, Vatican City, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Roman Forum, Colosseum and so much more. They were all amazing landmarks and we enjoyed learning about the history of Rome. Romantic experience: On top of Palatine Hill the sights were breathtaking. You can look down on the whole of Rome, we visited during a sunset and it was very romantic. I liked: Seeing such important landmarks and learning about Rome's fabulous history.   Read more

It was hot and sunny most of the time, with some thunderstorms but these passed quickly. The food was fine but go for the culture, not the food. Must do's: Go on a cruise on the Danube, go just before sunset as it is so beautiful to watch. Visit a thermal bath, really fun! We went to baths. Sightseeing places: Baths, Buda castle, fisherman's bastion, the liberty bridge. They were all really great, anything with a view of the Danube was amazing. Romantic experience: Watching the sunset on the Danube. 8. Marrakech, Morocco

"I liked: The different cultures, the sights and smells. The surprises! Learning about a different culture and religion."

Some great winter sun. Local cuisine was tasty and flavoursome, I tried some good restaurants such as Comptior, The Palace and The Lotus Club that I would definitely recommend. We took a hot air balloon ride over the Atlas Mountains. This was a fantastic experience for sunrise followed by a traditional Berber breakfast. We also had a camel ride which is a must, they were lovely calm animals. We also went trekking in the Atlas Mountains with a local guide, again this a fantastic experience and we were able to get a feel for Berber culture and life. Our hotel was well situated and walking distance to the Medina/souks. The souks boasted culture, they were vibrant, hectic and definitely awaken your senses. You have to be open-minded and treat the haggling as a bit of fun relenting that's Moroccan culture... Expect to be offered mint tea which is delicious and eat your dinner in candle-lit romantic atmospheres. I liked: The different cultures, the sights and smells. The surprises! Learning about a different culture and religion. Trying new foods. The opportunity for adventure around every corner.   Read more

The weather and food were amazing, there's a lot to do in Edinburgh, the dungeons are a must do along with the castle and Mary king's close. The camera obscurer is also good fun. Sightseeing places: Edinburgh castle, the camera obscurer, Mary king's close, Edinburgh museum and Greyfriars Bobby. Enjoyed every one of these although the dungeons do an excellent job of bringing Edinburgh's rich history to life. Romantic experience: There are many great restaurants to go for a romantic meal but standing on top of Edinburgh castle where you can get a great view of the entire city. I liked: That there is something for anyone and everyone to do in Edinburgh and is especially good for people who enjoy learning the history of a particular place.   Read more

Fantastic city made even more memorable thanks to its people, efficient and affordable public transport network (day travel card is ideal for sight-seeing), delightful international food, opulent buildings housing high-end boutiques, snapped mountains in the distance forming a beautiful backdrop to the Lake Geneva amongst various other aspects. Gastronomic experience in the outdoor restaurants for instance in Le Lacustre and La Potiniere - Jardin Anglais-Suisse on either sides of Pont du Mont Blanc with proper planning is recommended. We felt that the city catered to very well various age groups and interests, although we preferred to travel around the Lake Geneva, across France as well as a bit into Italy which turned out to be worthwhile. For us Geneva proved to be a launching pad to explore the region and we're looking forward to visit again with focus on learning about other regions. Food experience: Food and ambiance at Le Lacustre were excellent. Shopping experience: Souvenirs from the airport shops, both on the outside as well as in the duty-free shops. Sightseeing places: Lake Geneva, sightseeing from the public transport including the boats. Jura mountains, Mt Blanc, Courmayeur. Romantic experience: Alps! I liked: Air travel, hotel stay and driving in the wider region.   Read more
