Weather great- not too hot and bit overcast, but also clear hot days. Sights in Tibilisi pretty good though its a day than 2 days. Was expecting more Georgian music, but they've gone very young western ( crap). Hotels and the people are very good and appealing - nice friendly and helpful- clean hotels ( Old Mekethi). Good value, fresh and abundant food, lovely wine. The only issue was car towed away randomly- be very careful where you park! Hawkish police and big hassle getting the car back. Don't bother with river trips unless you like inane noisy music. Essentially it's the people who make it and they are worth talking to. Best of all - go to the country areas- they are invariably fabulous before the world finds out. De-stressing tips: Kasbegi rooms hotel. Walking and eating, georgian house music. Monasteries in general. Adventurous activities: 4 Wheel drive up to Jura. And around hill areas and roads to destinations. Sightseeing places: Kazbegi Stefansminster valley - outstanding. Meksheti - Monastery and Cathedral - enthralling, catch the services with choral - 9-11 am 4-6 pm for authentic music. Opelika caves - amazing, as is drive there and via Gori. Wine region - lovely esp with honey sellers on the hills. Romantic experience: Metsheta cathedral - overwhelmingly beautiful and early, authentic experience.
A wonderful small city. Temples valley is a must-see. De-stressing tips: Beach. Romantic experience: Dinner in front of the night view of the temples. I liked: Temples valley and amazing food.
Funchal and the surrounding area is extremely clean and tidy with super displays of flowers in the parks, hotel grounds and along the roadside. We particularly like Bird of Paradise flowers as they are very striking. Our trip was in April - the weather was warm but mixed some sunshine, some cloud, some wind and some specks of rain. Beware of sunburn on cloudy days - sun cream is needed. Funchal is delightful, the old town especially. We enjoyed the cable car, the cathedral and the old town particularly the flower market. We didn't venture onto the toboggans but it looked fun albeit rather expensive. Nun's Valley is worth a visit. We had some super meals both in Funchal and in the area around our hotel - tried the local fish - the scabbard fish - it didn't look very appealing when we saw it in the fish market but was actually very tasty. De-stressing tips: Lounging on sunbeds. Reading books. Going to the hotel gym. Going to the hotel evening shows...Sightseeing places: Monte - cable car trip to church and gardens - excellent. The Nun's Valley - excellent half-day trip. Romantic experience: After a hectic year, just to spend some time together doing just what we wanted was special. I liked: All the above!
Malaga was a stop on our journey. We needed the bus to Marbella. It is not easy to find a bus stop. We found it. We asked those already there whether we should pay on the bus and fortunately, they spoke English and told us to get a ticket from the ticket office. We had another hunt. Fortunately, my wife found the office. The ticket purchase was a doddle. Then we had to get onto the bus. There was a scrum and I thought we might not make it. When we got on there was an argument between passengers about whose seat was whose. We looked at our tickets and we were in the correct seats! So we needn't have worried after all. Adventurous activities: All the journeys between the places we visited. Sightseeing places: Gaucin, Marbella, Jimena the La Frontera, Ronda, and valley of the Genal river. Last two were the best. Romantic experience: Not that sort of visit. We were exhausted!
Weather nice and hot. Visiting Arkadi monastery and Amari valley was excellent, very peaceful. De-stressing tips: Sightseeing, walking, beach. Sightseeing places: Chania, Rethymno, Amari Valley. Romantic experience: No thanks. I liked: The atmosphere of Rethymno.
